The music magazine i have decided to research is called "Vibe" The magazine “vibe” is a mainstream music magazine; the design of the magazine constructs meaning for its audience by its use of colour, font and layout.
music magazines use celebrity endorsement as a way of constructing meaning for the audience, this is effective as the celebrity works as a selling point for the magazines in this magazines case the fact that Chris brown is displayed on the front will entice teenage boys to buy the magazine and teenage girls who find Chris brown attractive
The way the model Chris brown is posed also works as a signifier as to who the target audience of this magazine is which is teenagers.
Chris brown is posed in a thuggish position and because of this it will entice teenage boys to read the magazine and this will entice teenage girls to buy the magazine as teenage girls are stereo typically portrayed as being interested in the “bad boy“ type of person.
The use of colour is a combination between contrasting and natural colours as the use of green is a naturalistic colour, red on the other had’ contrasts the green; as well as works as a powerful colour.
This magazine uses several key conventions of music magazines e.g. the use of different fonts and font sizes to keep the page’ one interesting to look at and two draw the audience’s attention to different parts of the page.
Another key convention that is typical of music magazines is the use of brief short advertisements which are generally situated in the bottom right hand corner of the front cover
